From a nineteenth-century village workshop to a carefully renewed holiday cottage, The Saddlery has been part of North Thoresby's story for generations.
Its working past still gives The Saddlery its identity.
Dating from around 1840, the building later became the workshop of village saddler Ernest “Baggy” Larder. From the 1890s until the 1950s, saddles and harnesses were made and repaired here for the people whose work and travel depended upon them.
The name The Saddlery preserves that chapter of the building's life. Its use has changed, but its connection to North Thoresby remains central to what makes a stay here distinctive.

For more than half a century, this was a working saddlery rather than a holiday cottage. Leather, tools and traditional skills formed part of everyday life here as Ernest Larder made and repaired saddles and harnesses.
His familiar nickname, “Baggy,” survives in the historical record, although its origin is no longer known. The local history board helps preserve his association with the building and village.

Before welcoming guests, The Saddlery was comprehensively refurbished inside and out. The aim was to give the building everything needed for a modern stay while respecting the character that gives it its name.
